Building Good Body Mechanics Requires a Plan

  • Dr. Foster treats non surgical conditions of the spine and extremities.
  • Every patient is unique and your age, past history and body type affect the condition you are in.
  • Typically we divide care into 3 stages of repair and recovery.

Stage 1: Relief Care

Pain relief is our first objective. Getting you back to full duty at work, back to your recreational activities and daily routine typically starts with a care plan of therapy 2-3 times per week over 4-12 weeks. This plan is modified according to how you are feeling and functioning. If you are not progressing, we consider diagnostic imaging and referrals to other care providers. We endorse the “Choosing Wisely” initiative. Check out: Choosing Wisely, an initiative of the ABIM Foundation that promotes patient-physician conversations about unnecessary medical tests and procedures.

Stage 2: Correct and Restore Care

The corrective stage of care aims to correct the underlying mechanical imbalances that bring on pain and dysfunction. This is also a STRENGTHENING phase of care.

Therapy decrescendos at this stage typically to 4-6 times per month for 3-12 months. This phase of repair and recovery is focused on getting you as stable and strong as you can be. One goal is to stop the progression of episodic back attacks that degenerate the spine.

Stage 3: Wellness Care

Periodic check ups are helpful to root out early back and joint imbalances that cause wear and tear and lead to pain.

This pro-active approach also focuses on posture, ergonomics and lifestyle. This phase of therapy occurs 1-2 times a month and in some cases, quarterly.
